Explore the area
Lakituvat Chalets are perfectly located at the top of Ounasvaara hill, short distance away from the centre of Rovaniemi and yet surrounded by peaceful nature.
Ounasvaara is known for its sports centre as well as recreation area with a variety of well-maintained nature trails available all year round. Short walk from Lakituvat Chalets you can visit Santa Sport with a swimming pool, bowling hall, ice hall, or go to Ounasvaara ski centre for downhill skiing, snowboarding or cross-country skiing. You can take Ounasvaara Nature Trail which goes right next to chalets – and explore the nature area with its forests, rock formations, swamps and an ancient lake. The area has several viewpoints worth visiting; go to the top of the hill or walk up the observation tower to get a picturesque view over the city and Kemi River. Special lean-to fireplaces by the trail, known as “laavu”, offer great possibility for a break with a picnic.

Aurora at Lakituvat
Hilltop location of Lakituvat allows you to observe Northern Lights at your doorstep when the weather conditions are right. Despite being so close to the city centre, you can sometimes witness auroras right above your Chalet or by walking to the viewing point of Ounasvaara, just 5-minute walk away from the warmth of your chalet.
... and if clouds cover the sky in Rovaniemi, try your luck with the Aurora Hunting Photo Tour
Did you know there are over three million saunas in Finland, thus one sauna per two Finns?
To ensure you an authentic Finnish experience while staying at Lakituvat each chalet also has its own sauna. After sauna you can relax in the warmth from a woodburning fireplace.
Have you ever heard the snow falling?
Just step out side and listen to the sounds of silence. If you’re lucky you can spot the Northern Lights from your own terrace or see the reindeer roaming the yard.
Our traditional Finnish log chalets are ideal for up to six persons. Kids can safely play outside; in the winter you can go sledging just outside your own chalet. Sleds can be found in the wood storages situated between the chalets, and after playing the clothes can quickly be dried in the dryer. It is amazing seeing kids from all over the world playing outside together.
